FLAMENCO

Spanish is an excellent introduction to character styles, and is a fun and expressive dance form. Not “just a folk dance”, Spanish teaches posture, poise, versatility and musicality while incorporating classical technique. Flamenco has been classified by UNESCO as “World Intangible Cultural Heritage”.

Eden teaches the Instituto de la Danza Española (IDE) syllabus. Founded by Deanna Blacher OAM in 1984, the Instituto has developed a regulated and examined syllabus for Spanish Dance students, and offers expert training for Spanish Dance students and teachers while providing performance opportunities and workshops with world-renowned artists. The IDE teaches all the Spanish dance genres – Flamenco, Classico Español, Folk and Escuela Bolera, while incorporating language, theory and historical knowledge of the Spanish dance forms.

At the junior and intermediate level, flamenco is beneficial to all dancers, helping to develop musicality, gross motor, coordination and rhythmic understanding. However, at the senior level, we recommend the child takes one ballet or jazz class a week to assist with the classical components of the syllabus.

Children must be enrolled in a classical ballet class to enrol in Flamenco. This ensures safe and efficient development of technique and strength.
